SkillSelect – SkillSelect is the Department of Home Affair’s online system used to lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI). An EOI is not a visa application and there is no fee to create or submit an EOI in Skill Select. Once you have completed your EOI, it is stored in Skill Select and is valid for two years. You are able to update your EOI at any time during this two year period.

About Skills Assessment – When applying for most General Skilled Visas, your skills might need be assessed for your nominated occupation by the relevant assessing authority. An assessing authority is an organisation that checks if you meet the standards they set. The standards may include university or trade qualifications, employment experience, English language ability and other criteria set by the relevant authority. A skills assessment is generally valid for a period of three years from the date of issue or till the expiry date on the letter (whichever period is shorter).
