About the 494 Visa
The Global Talent Employer Sponsored (GTES) Visa enables Australian businesses to sponsor highly skilled overseas workers with niche skills that cannot be sourced locally and are not covered by standard visa programs. Under the GTES, employers can access two distinct streams, providing pathways for businesses—both established and emerging in the tech or STEM space—to bring top global talent into Australia.
The GTES offers two distinct streams to meet varying skill needs:
Established Business Stream

- The sponsor must have an annual turnover of at least AUD 4 million (for each of the past two years) or be publicly listed.
Startup Stream
- For tech-based or STEM-related startups endorsed by the independent GTES Startup Advisory Panel.
- Allows businesses to fill positions requiring specialized skills integral to growth and innovation.
