The Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) allows eligible young adults to holiday in Australia and fund their travel through short-term work. It is available to passport holders from certain countries/jurisdictions, subject to age limits of either 18–30 or 18–35.

  • You must have previously entered Australia on a Subclass 417 Visa and complied with all visa conditions.
  • If applying in Australia, you must hold a substantive visa or have held one that expired less than 28 days ago.
  • You must still hold an eligible passport and meet the relevant age requirements.
  • You must have completed three months of specified work in regional Australia while on your first Working Holiday Visa (417).
  • You must not be accompanied by dependent children.
  • You must apply individually (no family members can be included).
  • Stay in Australia for up to 12 months.
  • Undertake short-term work to help cover holiday expenses.
  • Study for up to 4 months.
  • Complete 3 months of specified work to become eligible for a second Working Holiday Visa.
  • Leave and re-enter Australia any number of times while the visa is valid.
  • Department of Home Affairs visa application fee – $650
