About the 500 Visa
The student visa (Subclass 500) allows you to study an eligible course at a recognised Australian institution. You are required to be enrolled in a CRICOS-registered course, and must provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), be a genuine student, have sufficient funds, English proficiency, health cover, and meet health and character requirements. You may be able to apply for this visa onshore or offshore.
What are the eligibility requirements
for the 500 visa?

For Visa Applicants:
- You must be enrolled in a CRICOS registered course or in a primary or high school program.
- You need to be issued an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) certificate by the education provider.
- You must meet the Genuine Student (GS) requirement. The GS criterion focuses on an assessment of your intention to genuinely study in Australia, considering the relevance of the chosen course of study, your immigration history and compliance with previous visas. To meet the GS requirement, you may be required to give evidence of previous study, previous study in Australia, current employment, as well as personal ties and economic circumstances in your home country/country of residence.
- You must show that you have sufficient funds for airfares, course fees and living costs.
- You will be able to meet the English language proficiency requirements.
- Meet health and character requirements.
- You and your accompanying family must be covered by acceptable Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
- If you are a school student, you may need to meet further age requirements to apply for this visa.
