About the Employer Sponsored Visas
Employer sponsored visas enable Australian employers to sponsor skilled overseas workers to fill positions on a temporary or permanent basis that cannot be filled by the local labour market. Additionally, there are a range of temporary activity visas that enable employers to hire people for activities such as sports training programs, seasonal work, etc.
What are the main requirements to sponsor a worker on an Employer Sponsored Visa?
- The employer needs to demonstrate that they are unable to find a suitable person in Australia to fill the role through labour market testing.
- For most employer sponsored visas the occupation must be listed on the relevant Skilled Occupations List. An employer may be able to negotiate a Labour Agreement for certain occupations that are not on the Skilled Occupations List. For highly skilled roles that are not listed on the Skilled Occupations List, employers may be able to sponsor workers through the Global Talent Employer Sponsored (GTES) Scheme.
- The employer must meet certain eligibility criteria to apply for sponsorship.
- The employer must nominate the worker for a particular position.
- The employee must have the skills, qualifications, and experience for the nominated occupation.
- The visa application has to be lodged.
What are the main Employer Sponsored Visas?
Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (Subclass 482)
The Subclass 482 or SID visa is a temporary work visa that allows skilled workers to work for their sponsor. The SID Visa was previously called the Temporary Skill Shortage Visa.
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa
(Subclass 186)
The Subclass 186 is a permanent visa for applicants in certain occupations that are nominated by their employers.
Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional Provisional Visa (Subclass 494)
