A new way to apply

You can now apply for NSW nomination online.

The requirements for NSW nomination remain the same; however, the process of applying has changed.

Here is the key information you should review before applying to NSW:

  • See our guide to supporting documents for information about what documents are required when you apply.
  • You must be ready to complete the application payment when you apply. You will be emailed a payment link immediately after submitting your application. This payment link is valid for 30 minutes only.
  • We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club International or Union Pay.
  • The total file size of all attached supporting documents cannot exceed 30MB. This is total file size and not the limit per document.
  • If you need to reduce the total size of your supporting documents, we suggest:
    • attaching documents in PDF format only
    • instead of lengthy documents, attaching only the sections with key information; for example, property valuations often include many pages of photos of the property, which we do not require for our assessment
  • You cannot save and resume your application or edit your application after it is submitted.
  • Using the ‘back’ button in your browser will cause you to lose any information previously entered. You can navigate the form’s pages using the ‘previous’ and ‘next’ buttons within the form.
  • You will be able to review all information entered in the form and make edits after you have attached your supporting documents.
  • Only submit your application once.
  • Immediately after you have applied:
    • you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application.
    • as mentioned above, you will be emailed a payment link immediately after submitting your online application form.

Skilled migration

S48 bar

The section 48 bar applies to applicants who are holding a bridging visa and have had a visa refused or canceled, since their last entry into Australia. If you are subject to a section 48 bar you need to leave Australia before you can reapply for a visa.

NSW will not renominate applicants who are subject to a section 48 bar where their nomination has expired, and they are unable to leave Australia.

Nomination allocations provided by the Department of Home Affairs are limited and it is currently uncertain when border restrictions will be lifted.

To ensure the limited nomination positions allocated to NSW go to support the economic recovery of the state, NSW will not renominate applicants subject to a section 48 bar.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

The process for applying for NSW nomination for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) remains the same, with invitations sent periodically to selected candidates.

Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491)

Regional Development Australia (RDA) offices have commenced, or will soon commence, accepting and assessing applications for nomination. A list of the participating RDAs can be found here.

Nomination criteria are consistent across all regions and can be found

Information about how to apply can be found on the respective RDA website.
